Meet Twila

Giving thanks for YOU

YOUR LOVE HELPS TWILA KNOW SHE IS NOT ALONE!

At the age of 10, Twila lost her father to brain cancer, which impacted the course of her life and her faith. “I was mad for a really long time – mad at God, mad at doctors, mad at everybody.”

She turned to alcohol for the first time the following year. “I got drunk with a friend when I was 11,” she says. “My mom was a drinker, so we found it in the house… Life was hard, especially my teenage years.”

Twila’s alcohol dependency came to a head many years later. Her marriage ended and she had broken her leg. Through several surgeries and severe depression, she couldn’t work and started drinking more and more. Eventually she lost her apartment.

Twila came to Great Falls Rescue Mission and found a refuge where she could begin to heal. “I feel safe here and I know there will be food and a warm place to sleep.”

“I’m learning to trust God. I’m learning to forgive those who hurt me and also myself.”

She joined our Christian Discipleship Program for women and has been sober for two years.

Thanks to the Mission, she has found a community to support her recovery for herself and her family. After she finishes the 16-month program, she hopes to get her own place where her six grandchildren can visit. Thank you for loving neighbors like Twila “as you’ve loved yourself.” Your kindness has reminded her that she is not alone and that a better life is possible! “I’m thankful to the Mission because they’re there to help people learn how to live life again, like they’re helping me.”
